Tutorial 1, Use your own navigation bar and set up the page
One problem you will encounter when you start making a web site with iweb is the lack of control on how the navigation looks.
There are several ways to change this but first you need to tell iweb that you want to use you own navigation bar.
Firstly make a new site, file-new site, name your site, add a new blank page. You will need the inspector open, go to view-show inspector, choose page inspector then the Page tab, un-tick the boxes for “Include page in navigation view” and “Display navigation menu” You can also name your page here.
If you are wondering how I got the image of the inspector I used Command-Shift-4 which brings up a cross-hair curser so that you can choose the area of the screen you want to capture.. it will put the image on you desktop in a PNG file. See Tutorial 3 on how to optimise images in Photoshop.
The layout tab in the inspector will allow you to change the size of your pages, I have found 800px to be a good width, don’t go over the top on width, be mindful of how your pages will render on your audiences screens.
If you want to make a navigation bar please have a look at tutorial 3 on how to make a navigation bar in Photoshop.
Whatever you do, make sure that you optimise to make your pages lean and fast to load, I like to use the PNG file format, you can use JPG but if you want a transparent background. PNG or GIFF are the formats to use.
The banner at the top of my pages was made in Photoshop, text was added for the nav buttons in iweb.
